It’s the final day of the Flemington Melbourne Cup Carnival and Jae’s done a full preview to keep us rolling.
With 4 profitable weeks out of 5, pay attention punters.
The great man is keen on a few today, tackling a few races at his home track of Morphetville, with a few that should be too good for their fields, and Flemington as they wrap up their spring carnival.
See Jae’s preview below.
Morphetville Parks track today should favour horses up on pace close to the rail, whereas at Flemington it’s the complete opposite track walkers have said it should favour outside barriers and get back run on types so I’ve done the form to suit.
Good luck and good punting!
Morphetville
R2 #6 Arugamama $2.30 Has been a hard horse to catch but has been racing against harder competition to date, gets back from Listed Grade last start to a BM66 here today and looks to classy for these, has form around good horses here in SA like Sixteen Reasons, 3 back beaten under a length and ran in behind Jenkins and Fancify 2 back who has since run well at Flemington during the week. Get on.
R6 #2 Press Down $2.40 Kicked off this prep very well in behind Sghirripa only beaten half a length on that day with a similar weight, gets in well here with the 3kg claim from Sheridan Clarke. Has gone across the boarder to race at Flemington and Caufield last prep and ran well behind a few good horses, that form lines up well against this lot very consistent at the trip and goes has done well 2nd up in the past.
R7 #3 Anjopin $7/2.35 Looks to be an open race with the field opening at $5. Anjopin presents the value at the $7 has gone great its last 2 starts winning both over the 1200m in weaker grade. Comes in at the top of the weights but gets the 3kg claim from Margaret Collett who rode this horse to a win last start. Is in form and going well. The step up to the 1400m for the first time is the only query but should get this done on class alone.
Flemington
R1#7 Sequestered $5.50/1.90 Going back to the well with Sequestered here, have been on every start this prep and has gone great guns untill falling short last start running 4th, just thinking it didn’t handle the soft conditions there and gets back to a good track today. Has drawn wide but from all reports the track will play off the rail so should be suited out wide and getting back before having the last crack at them. Concede it’s a big step up in class but we get in light and Mick Dee on for the steer is all the more positive.
BEST BET
Flemington R2 #2 It’sourtime $4.80 This race sets up beautifully for It’sourtime here, gets a lovely draw out deep in 11 and absolutely loves the Flemington straight. Blake Shinn sticks on for the ride he should hold a good spot forward of midfield and his experience down the track should carry him along way here, up against a couple others in the market that haven’t seen/performed down the straight he looks too good for them here.
R6 #7 In Secret $4/1.60 Siding the way of In Secret here, again the experience down the straight here is big tick for me has won the Coolmore last year and the Newmarket at the start of the year. If she can recreate those ratings here she will be right in it, she has been waiting to get back to the straight this whole prep and has run well up against the odds in all of her races thus far, comes here 4th up rock hard fit and ready to win at her pet track & distance.
R7 #6 Fangirl $2.90 She has never really been one of mine but this race looks to set up perfectly for her, she has been ultra consistent around the top horses in the country even knocking off Mr Brightside over this distance 2 starts back. Forgive her last start in the Cox Plate where she got back and was never really able to have a proper crack at them. The tough runs Mr Brightside and Alligator Blood had in the Cox Plate may have just taken a bit more out of them compared to Fangirl when she basically ran around there in a $5 million dollar barrier trial, she may just have a little more left in the legs than the other favs for this one.
NEXT BEST
R8 #11 Prowess $6.50/2.15 Looking for some value in the Champion Stakes and have sided with Prowess. She comes here 3rd up and should be fit as a fiddle, she is 3/3 at the 2000m and has begun this prep well with a win in Aus and a close 2nd when back home in NZ on the soft going, she looks more comfortable on a good track and will get that today, she taught them a lesson in the Vinery Stud Stakes last year over this distance winning by 3.3L in great style, Mark Zarha is back on board and in flying form, they get in nice and low with the weights, expect she will be right in the finish.
R9 #9 Kin $4.50/1.90 Kin resumes today off a 4 month break and a pretty quiet trial, pretty typical of the Cummings stables there. Last prep was ultra consistent in higher grade than most of these are used to running in. Jmac jumps on board and has drawn out in gate 12 with scratchings bringing it in a few, will find the best part of the track and a back to follow, having run well down the straight before, expect her to run an exciting race 1st up for the stable.
