ICC – Womens T20 World Cup – Australia Set To Face India In Semis

After what can only be described as a dominant tournament so far, Australia will be looking to add a 3rd straight World Cup Trophy to their already impressive trophy room as they face India in the Semi Finals.

Their win against home side South Africa on Sunday morning ensured that they qualified for the semi-finals. In the absence of vice-captain Alyssa Healy, Australia showed their flexibility with their batting order with Ellyse Perry moving up to open with Beth Mooney. Although Perry and Mooney failed to catch fire with the bat, it was the number 1 batter on the ICC T20 rankings, Tahlia Mcgrath who stole the show in the run chase, scoring a quick-yet-controlled 57* off only 33 balls.

Australia did not have it all their own way in this match with South Africa starting both innings off confidently. However, with regular boundaries being scored in the Australian innings and regular wickets falling in the South African innings the pressure was far too strong for the home nation.

The Australian t20 side have only lost a single match since 2021. It was however against their opponents in the semi-final, India. Going down in exciting super-over in November last year.

These two sides know each other extremely well, from not only playing against each other, but also with each other in the Weber WBBL and the upcoming Women’s IPL.
